World History and Geography
Medieval to Early Modern Times
This course covers Medieval and Early Modern Times by examining the social, cultural, and technological changes during the period A.D. 500-1789 (the birth of the United States). We will review how archaeologists and historians uncover the past and then we will study the California History-Social Science Standards (HSS) for grade seven which include:
7.1 The Causes of the Rise and Fall of Rome
7.2 The Spread of Islam
7.3 China during the Middle Ages
7.4 Africa during the Middle Ages
7.5 Japan during the Middle Ages
7.6 Europe during the Middle Ages
7.7 Meso-American and Andean Civilizations
7.8 The Origins and Accomplishments of the Renaissance
7.9 The Developments of the Reformation
7.10 The Developments and Lasting Effects of the Scientific Revolution
7.11 The Political and Economic Changes of the 16th, 17th, and 18th Centuries
Within the context the California history-social science standards, we will address a variety of California Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) standards to include:
7.1 Artistic Perception
7.2 Creative Expression
7.3 Historical and Cultural Context
7.4 Aesthetic Valuing
7.5 Connections, Relationships, Applications
